THE COLOR OF NIGHT
A first of its kind nightlife photography series, shot using only available light.
Artist Statement: "There is a world at night filled with emotional highs and lows disallowed during daylight hours where people are drawn out by loneliness and insomnia, romantic notions of epic adventures, and a real need to socialize. It's a world where you can lose and find yourself all at the same time in the color of night."
Timothy Murray has become ubiquitous on the nightlife scene focusing his camera on bars and parties all across America. Digital photography’s advancements in low light photography have allowed him to candidly reveal the true realities of the souls who unite in dark haunts free from their diurnal lives.
Subjects appear both paralyzed by anxiety and animated by desire as they bond in celebration. We see them drinking and dancing and aching for love in a time of prevailing gentrification and invading technology while bathed in the artificial light. This nocturnal existence fuels the engines of true human passion, joy and intimacy for those brave enough to dive into the colorfully illuminated darkness.
Two books have been published in the series:
The Color of Night, 2012 and The Color of Night: Brooklyn Edition, 2019.
